Unit 6 Lesson: MS Project Tasks Tutorial

Microsoft (MS) Project is an application used for managing projects and we will use it for some upcoming assignments. Last week, you made sure you had access to the software and this week we will use it to add tasks to the schedule!

Instructions

Note: If you use a Mac or Chromebook for your homework, you will need to use a virtual machine through NetLabs for each of your assignments using MS Project.

Set Up

  1. Open MS Project
  2. In the bottom left, click Options
  3. Choose Schedule from the left side
  4. Scroll down to the section titled Scheduling options for this project:
  5. Make sure New Tasks created: is set to Auto Scheduled
  6. Scroll down to the section titled Calculation
  7. Make sure Calculate project after each edit: is set to On

  8. Choose Save from the left side
  9. In the Save projects section, update the Default File location to a folder you have created for this class (it will not be identical to mine in the picture below).

  10. Optional: You may want to check the box to "Auto save every 15 minutes". You may also want to automatically "Save all open projects" and "Prompt before saving".
    Reminder: You will not be able to "Undo" previous actions after a project saves.

  11. Click Ok to save these settings/options
  12. To follow along with the video, click File and start a new blank project

  1. Watch the videos below. You do not have to watch all of them in one sitting. Feel free to break it up!
  2. Consider following along with the wedding planning example for practice in the program.
  3. Completing the bathroom renovation exercises are optional but highly recommended for more practice!
